This week, we learned about acrylics.
I would say, this was one of the most enjoyable ones.
It was frustrating at times because I couldn't get the 'rocky' look for my landscape, but I love how you can let the paint dry, and just layer it over and over with more paint after it dries. If you made a mistake, it didn't matter because you could cover it up.
This week was also one of the more stressful ones because of the quarter ending and trying to get the good grades I need. But after going to art classes after testings and things like that, I felt a lot more relaxed, and relieved.
I think that acrylics is very cool. I learned a lot from this week.

Week 7
Last week, we finished our seascape water coloring.
I learned so much about water color.
How to stroke the brush, and what happens if you put too much water, etc.
My seascape painting didn't turn out as well as i wanted it too, but overall it turned out all right. In the videos we watched, he always talked about not putting too much paint and "Don't go mad with this now."
I would say that is his favorite phrase.
Water color is probably one of the hardest arty things to do because water color just blends so well when you don't want it to.
You need a perfect technique.
Overall, I would say that water color wasn't my favorite, but it wasn't bad.

Week 5- what I learned
For me, water color is one of the hardest things for me.
Water color just blends and sometimes spreads to wear you don't want it to.
For our self-portrait, I was trying to get the skin tone right, and it was just hard, but learning and understanding how to use that technique was pretty good. Trying to get the shape of the face, the nose, and the eyes alone were hard too. I learned a lot about watercolor. How to blend and mix colors, and different techniques. Just trying out new things was a great thing, also to just get out of my comfort zone.
This week, on Wednesday, we also had to write a report on a particular artist from the Baroque period.
My persons name was Artemisia Gentileschi.
She was a very interesting person. The Baroque period concentrated a lot on violent things. Also having a dark background contrasting with the light of the actual person or scene. Artemisia had a lot of interesting points about her. She was pretty famous at that time just for being a successful woman, with also having a successful father as an artist.
She had a lot of meaning in her paintings.
Artemisia overall was a very interesting person, but the art itself didn't appeal to me much because of the scenes she drew, but in conclusion, she was a fascinating person to learn about.

Baroque Art- Artemisia Gentileschi
Hannah Kim
Integrated Art p 6
Artemisia Gentileschi
Artemisia was born on July 8, 1593 in Rome. She was the eldest child of the Tuscan painter, Orazio Gentileschi. She was first introduced to painting when she went to her father’s workshop. She showed great talent. She learned how to draw, mix colors, and how to paint. Her paintings are naturalistic while her father Orazios paintings were idealized. During his time, they were all greatly influenced by Caravaggio.
Her first work of art was at the age of 17 which was called Susanne e i Vecchioni or Susanna and the elders. This painting showed a lady getting sexually assaulted. Artemisia was actually later assaulted herself by her father’s friend; Agostino Tassi. Artemisia kept meeting Tassi and kept having sexual relations with him thinking that they would later get married, but Tassi held it off. They had many trials and complications. After the trail, to make it less complicated, she was quickly married off to Pierantonio Stiattesi and moved to Florence.
Artemisia painted Judith Slaying Holofernes from 1612-1613. It is said that the painting was remarkable not only for its technical proficiency, but for the original way of how Artemisia portrayed Judith. Judith was a very popular subject of art at that time along with her other character Susanna, Bathsheba and Magdalene. She was one of the first to paint historical and religious paintings, at a time when such heroic themes were considered beyond a woman's reach. She also drew a lot of nude pictures of herself. In Florence, Artemisia enjoyed huge success. She was the first woman accepted into the Accademia del Disegno (Academy of Drawing) in 1614-1620.
All of her techniques took a long time to master. The detail and composition overall contributed to the Baroque style, which has earned her the right to be considered in the same path as male artists of the period. She was also one of the most famous woman painters of the Baroque period even though women were not high recognized.
When she painted, she tenebrism which is using a lot of light in a dark background and a lot of drama with men. Also she painted a lot of Biblical themes like her male peers but sometimes she opted for women instead who were heroic, powerful, and abused.
I think that she influenced many women artists to branch out and become who they want to be. They can do what they want and not be influenced by men. Even if people are being sexist, they need to stand up and paint and do the art you want to do.
I enjoy this artist because one, she was a female. I admired her courage and withstand all the things she went through. She went through torture, assault, rape, and people were sexist against her. She went through so much for herself to be at the point where she can paint, and be recognized as a great artist of the Baroque period. Even though her paintings and her interpretations were a little weird, it seems like she is an overall great person who wants to be equal with everyone else. She was a woman with great honor to do all these things.

Week 1: What I learned
In integrated art this week, we watched videos on photography and water color.
The video on photography was pretty interesting. He has a really good camera, and the different ways to take pictures was interesting too.
The video about the water color was really cool, because when I was young, I used to watch that guy and watching him paint was one of the most fascinating things to me. I always wanted to paint like him.
He talked about the masking liquid, and how to use it. He also talked about how not to overuse things. His most used quote would be "Don't go mad with this now."
It was a really interesting thing to see and learn about.
